New Delhi, 11th of March, 2025 : The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal attended the Valedictory Session of the Northeast Students’ & Youth Parliament here today. The event is aimed at bringing together youth leaders, students and representatives from across the Northeast region along with other parts of the country to discuss and formulate strategies on key developmental issues.
The event, aimed at strengthening the social, economic, educational, and cultural development of Northeast India, saw participation from student organisations, academic representatives, and youth leaders from all eight northeastern states. The Parliament served as a historic platform for constructive discussions and policy recommendations to address long-standing regional challenges.
Speaking at the valedictory session, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “The Northeast Student and Youth Parliament is a landmark initiative that amplifies the voices of young change-makers from the region. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is undergoing a positive transformation as we work towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The real power that is driving this transformation is the power of the youth who have committed to the cause of Nation Building. This platform also empowers youth to drive social, economic, and infrastructural transformation towards the cause of nation building. The deliberations held today will shape policies that enhance connectivity, education, and sustainable development in the Northeast. As we move towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat, the youth of this region will play a defining role in nation-building, fostering unity, and unlocking the true potential of India’s eastern frontier.”
The Parliament focused on infrastructure and connectivity, enhancing educational standards, better healthcare facilities, peace, harmony, and national integration, unemployment, environmental conservation and sustainable development, unlocking the region’s vast tourism potential, strengthening international trade links, and fostering cultural exchange to promote holistic development.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students’ Experience in Interstate Living (SEIL) jointly organized the Northeast Student and Youth Parliament at NDMC Convention Center in the capital today.
