Agartala, Tripura, 26th of April 2025 : On 26th April 2025, the Legal Aid volunteers of the Faculty of Law, ICFAI University, Tripura, organized a Women-Centric Legal Awareness Campaign on “Legal Paradigms of Employees at Workplace” at the Conference Hall of Annada Spices Industry (Longtharai), R.K. Nagar, Khayerpur, West Tripura. The event was conducted under the insightful guidance of Dr. Anindita Chaudhury, Faculty Convener, Legal Aid Clinic, and Dr. Puranjan Prashad Paul, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law.
The program focused extensively on creating awareness about women’s rights in professional spaces.
An in-depth, interactive session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013 was conducted by Mr. Abhishek Debnath, LL.B 2nd Year Student. His session emphasized the urgent need for gender-sensitive workplaces, the legal protections against sexual harassment, and the empowerment of women to assert their rights fearlessly.
Following this, Ms. Papia Shome presented a highly informative session on Maternity Benefit Laws, emphasizing the legal entitlements of working mothers under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, and the role of employers in ensuring health, dignity, and equality for women during maternity.
Moreover, the volunteers conducted an engaging discussion on Online Harassment, Cyber Crimes against Women, and the preventive measures and complaint mechanisms available to women. The sessions underlined the importance of digital safety, self-advocacy, and resilience among women in the evolving online landscape.
The campaign was designed not just to educate, but to empower women employees to recognize, resist, and seek redressal against injustices they may face. The active participation of the employees, particularly the women workforce, made the event a resounding success, reinforcing the importance of continuous efforts towards gender justice and women’s empowerment in every sphere of life.
