Visit Of Hon’ble Union Home And Cooperation Minister, GOVT. Of India To Sabroom Border Area Of BSF Tripura Frontier.

On 8th March 2022, Amit Shah, Hon’ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Govt. of India along with Biplab Kumar Deb, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary, Govt of India, Pankaj Kumar Singh, IPS DG BSF and Y B Khurania, IPS ADG(EC) BSF visited Indo-Bangladesh International Border under Kathalcheri Border Out Post under Sabroom Sub Divisional HQ Town of South Tripura District of Tripura State. During the visit, Susanta Kumar Nath, IPS IG BSF Tripura Ftr made a detailed briefing about various challenges faced by BSF troops in the sphere of operational domination, infrastructure/developmental work etc.

  1. During the presentation, Mr Nath, IG apprised the Hon’ble Union Home Minister that Tripura Frontier is one of the major Frontiers in the Eastern Command which is responsible for maintaining the sanctity of around 4096 Kms long Indo-Bangladesh International Border. BSF Tripura Ftr has been assigned the task of manning 856 Kms of Indo-Bangladesh border in State of Tripura for which 18 Battalions of the Force under 04 Sectors having 244 Border Out Posts(BOPs) are deployed all along the International Border. He also apprised about three categories of challenges being faced by BSF Tripura Ftr which includes:-

(a) Operational challenges ranging from anti-national elements like smugglers and infiltrators active in the Western and Northern border to the insurgents active in Eastern border of Tripura State.

(b) Infrastructure Challenges ranging from building and upkeep of border fence, border roads, border flood lights and Border Out Posts(BOPs) situated along the border line.

(c) The living condition challenges faced by the troops due to the in-hospitable and in-accessible hilly jungle terrain in the Eastern border of the State of Tripura where there still remains huge challenges in terms of electrification, provision of potable drinking water and construction of proper Pakkahebitable structures in the BOPs besides the road connectivity and tele-communication challenges which needs be addressed effectively.

  1. Hon’ble Union Home Minister also made detailed review of various border infrastructure projects with particular emphasis on border fencing to plug all the existing gaps all along the 856 Kms long International Border in the State of Tripura. In this regard, the construction of various different models of fencing including Composite Fence, Smart New Design Fence and Single Row Fence in different patches were discussed at length. Hon’ble Union Home Minister issued several instructions to senior BSF officials and other senior officials to maintain good liaison with various agencies in order to clear the hurdles coming in the way of such constructions.

During the field visit and review, Hon’ble Union Home Minister also interacted with Shri Biplab Kumar Deb, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Tripura and other senior officials of Govt of Tripura including Shri Kumar Alok, Chief Secretary, Govt of Tripura and Shri V S Yadav, IPS DGP Tripura and others. It transpired during such interaction that the BSF Tripura Frontier is working in close co-ordination with all the wings of State Govt of Tripura in effectively overcoming the bottlenecks in developing various border infrastructure projects like border fence, border road and border flood lighting. BSF, Tripura Frontier has also been carrying out extensive joint operations in co-ordination with State Police and other security agencies in ordered to address the menace of illicit trafficking of narcotics substances like Yaba tablets, Phensedyl Syrup, Dry Ganja etc in the State of Tripura. Hon’ble Union Home Minister also praised the recent achievements of BSF Tripura Frontier on this front.
  3. Hon’ble Union Home Minister also visited the Field Areas under Border Out Post and physically inspected the border infrastructure and developmental works including border fencing, Border Roads, Border Flood Lights etc. He issued several instructions to senior officials attending the reviewed to make all out efforts to complete all the pending fencing work and plug all the remaining gaps at the earliest.
  4. During the presentation by Nath, IG BSF also made detailed presentation regarding various other Public Out Reach Programmes as well as Welfare and Administration activities carried out by the Frontier for maintaining healthy co-operation and coordination with State Govt officials, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as well as the local population living in the bordering areas. This has gone a long way in winning the confidence of all sections, especially the local public living in remote bordering areas of the State. Hon’ble Home Minister appreciated the Civic Action Programmes undertaken by BSF and directed that such programmes to be continued in future as well.
