The Tribal Giri’s earn their livelihood by cultivating Jhum. Located Badrai Para of East Lakshmipur ADC Village under Mungiakami Rd Block, Teliamura. Badrai Para is a hilly region located inside the 43 mile area of the Assam-Agartala National Highway. About 55 families mainly of Tribal people live in the area. They earn their livelihood by cultivating Jhum and struggles to survive in any form throughout the year. They are hoping for Government benefits. When will the Government look at them? But they are deprived of Government opportunities and do not get any benefits. They were struggling to survive by selling leafy vegetables of the forest.
They are struggling to support their families by selling bash kurul (bamboo shoots), Jhum vegetables on the side of the national highway. Interacted with them, one man of the area said that they have been selling vegetables, Bash Kurul (Bamboo Shoots) etc. from the mountain forest like this for many years. Despite the political change of the ADC administration, there has been no change in them. However, an open shed has already been constructed in the 43 mile area. They can sell vegetables sitting there. Also MGNREGA gets work. But it is not possible to support the family with it. He expressed the hope that the Government should do more for their welfare.
