“Swachhata Hi Seva” Campaign, A Cleanliness Drive Organized By Students And NSS Volunteers Of MMD College.

Sabroom, Tripura, 28th of September, 2024 : With the initiative of Michael Madhusudan Dutta College, SabroomSwachhata hi Seva‘ campaign, a cleanliness drive was organized at Sabroom on Saturday (28th September, 2024). Student volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) of Michael Madhusudan Dutta College South Tripura district are celebrating the “Swachhata hi Seva”  aspect through various programs on the occasion of the 10th year of Swachh Bharat Mission.

Nationwide “Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan 2024”is being observed from September 14th, 2024, to October 1st, 2024 on the theme of Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata. The Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan 2024 aims to create greater awareness about the importance of cleanliness and environmental stewardship, with tree plantation being a key activity. This initiative is a part of the government’s efforts to promote a clean and green India under the Swachh Bharat Mission, to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of its launch in 2014 by  Prime Minister on 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti).

As part of this, the NSS unit organized a marathon run from the in front of the college to Sabroom railway station on Friday. NSS volunteers and other students participated in it. College Principal Dr. Anupam Guha, professors and many other dignitaries were present at the occasion.

NSS volunteers and students responded to the call of “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata” and collected waste plastic and other garbage from the area including the railway station and arranged for drainage.

The estimated weight of plastic waste collected is around 80 kg. At the closing ceremony, everyone present including station manager Kumar Pintu appreciated the initiative of the college and in the presence of the college authorities, prizes were handed over to the first, second and third runners-up Dwipayan Das, Manajit Debnath and Sagar Debnath who participated in the marathon. The NSS unit informed that this type of transparency campaign will be conducted in the future as well.

Swachhata hi Seva” campaign, a cleanliness drive was also held on Friday at ancient pilgrimage centre, Unakoti, Kailashahar.  ‘Swachhata hi Seva” campaign  were conducted, the staff-officers of various organizations including the district administration, BSF, Assam Rifles, Tripura Police and students and students of NSS participated.
