Road Safety Awareness Programme Organized By Transport Department Government Of Tripura.

Agartala, Tripura, 8th of September, 2024 : With the initiative of Transport Department Government of Tripura Road Safety awareness programme has been organized at Swami Vivekananda Ground, Agartala on Sunday (8th September, 2024). In the presence of many dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the Road Safety awareness programme Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Road accidents and loss of life can be avoided through public awareness and caution. For this, vehicle drivers, and passengers need to follow all road safety rules. Public awareness is most needed to prevent road accidents.  If any person is affected by an accident somewhere, we should all come forward with humanity immediately to save his life. The accident victim should reach the hospital within the golden hour. He said that about one and five thousand people lose their lives every year in India due to road accidents and about 5 lakh people are injured and disabled. Road accidents occur due to drunken driving, not using footpaths, obstructing traffic by parking everywhere. It is very important to be aware while driving to avoid accidents. Traffic accidents can be reduced to a great extent if public awareness about traffic rules and road safety is properly implemented.

The Chief Minister said that the number of vehicles presently registered in Tripura is 7 lakh 87 thousand 203. Among them, the number of Two wheelers is 5 lakh 56 thousand 519. Various steps have been taken by the Transport Department to regulate these vehicles properly and reduce road accidents. State Road Safety Council, Road Safety Committee, lead agencies have been constituted. There are guidelines for the wearing of seat belts in vehicles and the mandatory wearing of helmets for bike drivers and riders sitting on the back. He said there is a Good Samaritan reward of Rs 5,000 available for those who are able to save the lives of the accident victims by taking them to the hospital during the golden hour. Appraisal committee has been formed at the district level in this regard. Besides, there are district and sub-divisional road safety committees. The Chief Minister emphasized on the monitoring of all these committees

Addressing the Road Safety awareness programme Hon’ble Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that 8 vehicles have been provided under District Transport Officers and 8 vehicles for Defense Department and State Traffic Police for road safety monitoring at a cost of 2 crore 40 lakh rupees. This initiative has been taken to increase public awareness to prevent road accidents among people through proper infrastructure. He said many people are dying prematurely due to road accidents. As a result, many families are affected. Most road accidents occur mainly due to lack of public awareness.

CK Janmatia Secretary of Transport Department delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.  State Police DGP (Intelligence) Anurag, Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Dipak Majumder, officials and many other dignitaries were present in the programme. Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of Transport Department has concluded the programme with vote of thanks.​
