Agartala, 26th of May, 2024 : In anticipation of Cyclone Remal‘s ferocious onslaught, the Meteorological Department’s forecast prompted swift action from Tripura’s administrative machinery. As the cyclone began its rampage on Sunday night, the state braced itself for potential havoc, particularly within its power infrastructure.In a proactive move to mitigate the looming disaster, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh (IAS) convened an urgent video conference on Sunday. The virtual meeting saw the participation of all Additional General Managers and Deputy General Managers, as directed by the Secretary of Electricity. Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Singh ordered all officials to be present in their respective district and subdivision offices, ensuring prompt response to any disruptions caused by the impending storm.
With a keen eye on public safety, officials were instructed to remain vigilant, particularly in areas susceptible to lightning storms. The toll-free call center, designated by the number 1912, was mandated to enhance its responsiveness to citizen concerns and emergency calls. At the heart of the coordination effort stood the top brass of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), led by Managing Director Debashish Sarkar and General Manager Swapan Debbarma. Along side them, Additional General Manager Kanak Lal Das and a cadre of officers and engineers from various circles and divisions pledged their commitment to maintaining uninterrupted power supply throughout the crisis.
Acknowledging the imminent threat posed by Cyclone Remal, which was forecasted to make landfall between Sagar Dwip in India and Khepupara in Bangladesh, authorities urged residents to remain vigilant. The cyclone’s maximum wind speeds, projected to reach up to 135 km per hour, raised concerns about potential damage to infrastructure and disruption of essential services.
In response, the power secretary appealed to the citizens of Tripura to extend their cooperation and support the efforts of the state administration and emergency response teams. With the collective determination of officials and the public, Tripura stands poised to weather the storm and emerge resilient in the face of adversity. As Cyclone Remal’s fury looms large, Tripura remains steadfast in its preparations, demonstrating a unified resolve to safeguard its people and infrastructure against nature’s wrath.
