With the initiative of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala held press conference at NIT Agartala Transit House, Shyamali Bazar, Agartala on Thursday (2nd November, 2023). The 16th Convocation of NIT Agartala is scheduled on Saturday, 4th November 2023 (3.30 p.m.) at the Institute Campus (ABV Sports Complex) stated the Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Patra, Director, NIT Agartala at a press meet.
Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest of the function and will deliver the Convocation Address.
Prof. Damodar Acharya, Former Chairman, AICTE and Former Director, IIT Kharagpur will grace the event as Guest of Honour.
Shri Binod Bawri, Chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Agartala will preside over the function. Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Patra, Director, NIT Agartala, will award the degrees to the graduates.
NIT Agartala, an Institute of National Importance was established by Government of India with the mission to herald excellence in technical education and research in the North-East region. Presently, 4850 students are studying at NIT Agartala. The Institute offers B.Tech in 9 branches, 24 specializations in M.Tech Level alongwith 5 branches in Dual Degree. The institute also offers MBA, MCA, M. Sc. and Doctoral Programs. At present, around 300 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. in various fields.
The 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program has been started from the Academic Session 2023-24. The program aims at preparing teachers for secondary education as per the new structure of NEP 2020 in science stream.
In this convocation, 45 Ph.D., 117 M. Tech, 12 MCA, 31 MBA, 19 M. Sc, 773 B.Tech, 52 BS, 14 BT, 37 BSMS and 07 BTMT graduates will receive their degrees.
NIT Agartala contribution is at par with the top technical Institutes of the country. In the year 2022-23, NIT Agartala fraternity published more than 710 research papers in prestigious Science Citation Indexed (SCI) and Scopus Indexed journals. International Conferences and International workshops were also organized in the year of 2022-2023. It is noteworthy that, NIT Agartala also possesses good record in terms of achievements related to patenting: 17 patents filed, 15 patents published and 11 patents have been granted in the year 2023.
NIT Agartala ranks within 100 top institutions of country in Engineering Category. Institute has achieved this continuously over the last six years. This year 2023, the institute secured 91st position among the engineering institutes in India as per NIRF ranking by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India
We have a Center for Career Development that coordinates student training and placement opportunities. Beside this, the Center conducts workshops, organizes webinars, mock-training / mock interview through hybrid mode for student career prospects.
In the last Academic Year 2022-23, B. Tech students were offered 704 job offers by different organizations. Important companies include BPCL, HMEL, CDAC, CDOT, Amazon, Google, AWS, CAT, TATA Advanced Systems, Tata Power, Tata Elxsi, GE Digita, L&T, Reliance, Dassault Systemes, AM/NS, BOSCH, Alstom, Bajaj, Maruti Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, JSW, FIAT, Daimler, Truck, Saint Gobain, Mercedes Benz, Valvo, Intel, Toshiba, Texas Instruments, National Instruments, Oracle, PhonePe, PayPal, Samsung, Cashfree, Nvidia, PWC, Deloitte and so on. More than 250 companied visited NIT Agartala for conducting placement drive in the last academic year.
NIT Agartala has relented with proud statistics for B.Tech students’ placement for the academic year 2022-2023 with an outstanding 95.26% of job offers (Eligible B. Tech students =739, Job offers=704). In the last Academic Year, the average salary for graduates in the B.Tech Program was 11.29 LPA (Lakh Per Annum) and the highest package is 52 LPA.
During the academic period, students of the Institute have undergone internship in various reputed organizations. To name a few, Google, Intuit, Intel, Wipro, Cairn Oil, Saint Gobain, IITs, ONGC, IOCL, NEEPCO etc.Last year, the internships were arranged for nearly 90% of students. It also facilitates the students to learn new things as per contemporary needs beyond academic inputs.
First ever incubation centre, offered by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was established at NIT Agartala in (2018). The institute faculty members across departments are involved in 08 projects sponsored by ISRO and S-TIC-NE, ISRO, Government of India. The S-TIC NIT Agartala first product (an integrated, miniature and portable air pollution monitoring system) was handed over to ISRO on 27th April, 2023 in the presence of Director. NESAC, Shillong.
NIT Agartala is committed to implementing NEP 2020 and we are working in mission mode to achieve the target. Some initiatives with this include:fewcourses of B. Tech 1st Year are proposed to be taught in local/ regional languages, MOU(s) have been signed between NIT Agartala and different National & International Institution/Universities for Credit transfer and Research collaboration, and many others.
The Skill Development Training Centre (SDTC) of the Institute is functioning well. It provides technical skill based training for enhancing the knowledge and skill of the rural people in neighboring community on the use of technology. The Centre for Rural & Tribal Development (CRTD) of the institute organises various activities throughout the year. The Centre organized 4th Tripura/Tipra Language (Kokborok) language training and Certificate Distribution programme (held on 11th August, 2023) where, Shri Bikash Debbarma, Hon’ble Minister, Department of Tribal Welfare, Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Statistics, Govt. of Tripura, inaugurated the program. The students of the institute are also involved in teaching the under privilege children of the local community.
Over the last year NIT Agartala received nearly Rs. 100 lakh for different testing and consultancy activities. The value of the ongoing projects received by the institute from different organizations is approximately Rs.265.00 Lakhs with a total of 26 projects.
NIT Agartala has signed MoUs with several Institutions of National and International repute. These include MoUs with IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jammu, University of Durham (UK), RFRF (Research for Resurgence Foundation), SHRM Biotechnologies, Directorate of Information Technology (DIT) Government of Tripura and so on. Recently, NIT Agartala signed a MoU with North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) (on 24th July, 2023) Meghalaya. Under these MoUs, NIT Agartala will jointly conduct conference, workshop, short term courses, research work, internship & training, access to laboratory, library and other supporting facilities. The MoUs also open up facilities at different organization for our students.
The Institute has many technical clubs including ACM club, Robotics club, SAE Club, Aviation Club, Literary Club, Music Club, Photographic Club, E-Cell etc., to help students to develop techno organizational skills etc. Beside this, the Institute conducts awareness programs and other activities throughout the year. Some of these include Yoga Day, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Rashtriya Ekta Divas, National Science Day, Hindi Saptah,Study Connect Program, Vigilance week, Year of Millet, Azadika Amritmahotsav etc.
NIT Agartala is showing remarkable performance in the areas of Academic activities, students Placement, Infrastructure, Academics-Industry Interface, Physical Education & Sports and Alumni Involvement. There has been continuous and constant support from our Alumni in motivating the students. The institute is equipped with quality laboratories that ensure opportunity for the students to work independently. Because of its overall performances; the Institute has now established itself on a platform of technological excellence in a very short period of time.
The much awaited convocation ceremony is our promise to quality education that has imparted to the 2023 graduates.
