West Bengal, 17th of June, 2024 : The accident occurred when a goods train hit a stationary passenger train, the Kanchenjungha Express, in West Bengal on Monday (17th June, 2024) morning. The collision occurred near Rangapani station, approximately seven kilometers from New Jalpaiguri. The Kanchanjunga Express (13174) train was bound for Sealdah from Agartala when the accident occurred at around 9:00am (09.01 hrs). According to sources, 8 people have died and around 25 have been injured in a train crash.
According to sources, Train no 13174 DN , Loco no-32308 /CNB, departure RNI at 8.27 hrs with authority TA912 .stop between RNX -CAT at km no-11/10,12,14. Due to automatic signalling failure from 05.50 hrs and TA 912 issue authourity for above train Same time train no DN GFCG cont , Loco no 43616 /PADX departure RNI at 8.42 hrs hit wirh 13174 DN in rear portion resulted Rear SLR, PCL VAN and and GS derailed. SLR badly damage and upon the loco hood of loco no 43616 PADX , wheel of SLR inter in Loco CAb and LP & ALP may be entangle Massage time 09. 01 hrs. Both up & DN line block and up & DN train मूवमेंट hampered.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha tweeted, “Spoke with Hon’ble Union Minister for @RailMinIndia Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji regarding the collision of Kanchanjungha Express with Goods train in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Hon’ble Union Minister informed me that rescue operation is going on in full swing and assured that all necessary support would be given to the victims and their families.
