Agartala, Tripura, 13th of November, 2024 : A Junior Engineer, Gr-I under the Tripura Engineering Service committed suicide by hanging in the bathroom of her husband residence. The incident took place on Tuesday (12th November, 2024) night at Colonel Chowmuhani , Agartala while her husband Shri Prasenjit Das was present in the house. The name of the suicidal woman is Maitri Roy. She was posted as JE, Gr-I in the Section Office of Central-I Sub-Division under Public Works Department at Kumaritilla Government Quarters Complex, Kunjaban, Agartala. She married the Junior Engineer namely Shri Prasenjit Das, who is presently serving in Amarpur RD Block under the Rural Development Department, for love in March, 2012. They have a 10 years old sweet girl.
According to the sources, her husband drinks regularly and has a deep extramarital affair with another woman at Amarpur. He would often torture his wife mentally. Sources said, she could not bear it and committed suicide. The paternal relatives of the victim burst into tears. A shadow of grief of her death has spread over the whole area as well as her work place at Kumaritilla Government Quarters Complex. According to the occupants of the said quarters complex, she was a very good Engineer and would do her duty at her best level. Her death has cast a shadow of cow mourning in the area of the said quarters complex as well as in the cadres of the Tripura Engineering Service. The Police has registered an unnatural death case and started an investigation.
