ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswarand The Department Of Fisheries, Govt. Of Tripura Jointly Organised A One-Day Workshop On Maintenance And Care Of Aquariums At Agartala, Tripura.

Agartala, 5th of July 2024 : ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura, organized a one-day workshop on Maintenance and Care of Aquariums for the school teachers, extension officials, and hobbyists at Fish Health Investigation Centre, at Agartala, Tripuraon 25.06.2024under NEH scheme. The event was organized to promote aquarium science education programsamongst schools, extension officials, and hobbyists.More than sixty-five participants attended the event, including students, teachers,and hobbyists of Agartala (M),officials of state department officials and scientists from ICAR-CIFA.

During the inauguration of the program, Shri Nanda Gopal Noatia, DDF, West Tripura District, narrated the huge scope and prospects of ornamental fish and aquarium keeping in school education programs, as well as the demand-supply of food fish in the state. Dr. S Adhikari, Principal Scientist and Chairman of NEH programs of ICAR-CIFA, highlighted the activities, including aquarium keeping, undertaken by ICAR-CIFA for the development of the North East Region.Shri Haridulal Acharya, Sabhadhipati, zila parishad of West Tripura, inaugurated the occasion and highlighted the importance of the fisheries in the state, including the promotion of ornamental fisheries.Smt Himani Debbarma (Mayor In Council) as guest beautifully pointed out some crucial things about aquarium keeping. The aquarium unit and its key components were demonstrated, as well as its operation principle and maintenance and care were discussed in the technical session.

In the event, twenty different schools in and around Agartala,including 17 (Seventeen) numbers of higher secondary schools of Tripura and one technical institute were distributed aquaria with all supporting tables, top cover, filter, and all accessories including lightings, aeration, decorative objects, etc.

All the participants were grateful to Dr Pramoda Kumar Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar, for overall guidance and providing all the necessary facilities for conducting the workshop successfully.The event was coordinated by Dr.S. Adhikari, Principal Scientist, and Shri Arabinda Das, Scientist of ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar, and Shri Nanda Gopal Noatia, Dy. Director of Fisheries, West Tripura District, and Smt. Dipmala Roy, Supdt. of Fisheries, Department Fisheries, Tripura.
