Nagpur, 9th of March, 2025 : Sustainability and clean energy are crucial to the future of our nation. Aligned with the vision of the National Solar Mission, IIM Nagpur has always strived to achieve its goal of becoming a “Net Zero Campus.” This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education by providing a reliable, eco-friendly power source while reducing the institution’s carbon footprint and operational costs.
Dr.BhimarayaMetri, Director of IIM Nagpurwelcomed Shri Devendra Fadnavis, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He laid the foundation stone for the 2 MW Solar Project and inaugurated the Golf Academy at IIM Nagpur. The event was attended by Hon’ble Shri Ajay Sancheti, Shri Ashish Jaiswal, Shri Ashish Deshmukh, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar (IAS), CMD, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. (MSETCL), Shri C P Gurnani, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Nagpur, and several distinguished dignitaries.
In his address, Shri Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “It is a momentous occasion for IIM Nagpur as it takes a significant step toward becoming a net-zero campus. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister has set ambitious targets for India’s energy transition, and institutions like the IIMs play a vital role in this transformation. I am proud to share that by 2030, 52% of Maharashtra’s energy will come from renewable sources, helping us fulfill the Prime Minister’s vision.”
Shri Fadnavis further praised IIM Nagpur’s achievements, saying, “IIM Nagpur is setting benchmarks in multiple fields, and with this net-zero campus initiative, it will inspire others to follow suit. Congratulations on this pioneering decision. Additionally, the establishment of the Golf Academy, first of its own kind, is a significant milestone, as a world-class institution must have such facilities. This will help you become more globally recognized.”
He also mentioned the upcoming IIM Nagpur campus in Pune, adding, “I look forward to setting up of IIM Nagpur campus at Pune soon.”
With the esteemed presence of the Chief Minister, IIM Nagpur reached another milestone in its journey toward sustainability. This solar project will significantly reduce the campus’s carbon footprint and operational costs. Dr.BhimarayaMetri, Director of IIM Nagpur, emphasized, “This mega initiative will ensure a more reliable and eco-friendly power source, marking a significant step toward achieving our ‘Net Zero Campus’ goal.”
The ground-mounted solar power plant, being developed by Kalpa Power Pvt. Ltd., will have a total capacity of 2202 kW (DC) and 1998 kW (AC). The plant is expected to generate 29,57,040 kWh annually, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 66,000 tonnes over the next 25 years, and this further enhances its stature as green campus.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated the IIM Nagpur Golf Academy, a unique initiative and a first of its kind among all IIMs. The Academy will offer avenues for the holistic growth of the student community, staff, executives visiting the campus, and all golf enthusiasts. IIM Nagpur is committed to cleaner and more sustainable energy for its campus. Today’s foundation stone of the 2 MW- Solar Project and inauguration of the Golf Academy are the important milestones.
