Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Inaugurates Khelo Tripura Para Games 2024.

Agartala, Tripura, 18th of December, 2024 : With the jointly initiative of Social Welfare & Social Education and Youth Affairs & Sports department Government of Tripura Khelo Tripura Para Games 2024 organized at Swami Vivekananda Ground, Agartala on Wednesday (18th December, 2023). As part of the celebration of International Day of Disabled Persons 2024 organized Khelo Tripura Para Games. The Para Games will continue till December 19. In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the Khelo Tripura Para Games 2024 by lighting the ceremonial Lamp.

Addressing at the inaugural ceremony of Khelo Tripura Para Games 2024 Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said,  the divyangjans are not a separate part of society. In various aspects of society, the disabled have opposed the intelligentsia and society. Through organizing such sports, the mental development of the Divyangjans as well as their physical and mental health are enhanced. Through sports, a sense of discipline, diligence, responsibility, duty and patriotism are awakened. He said, various events like cricket, chess, football etc. will be held for the visually impaired in this Khelo Tripura Para Games.

Chief Minister said that the present Government is implementing various programs to provide overall facilities and assistance to the divyangjans. This government is working keeping in mind the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas-Sabka Prayas. Along with government initiatives in all fields including sports and education, it is necessary for the entire society to come forward to help the divyangjans. The Chief Minister said that the Tripura Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules-2018 provides for 4 percent reservation in direct recruitment and promotion and 5 percent reservation in government-aided institutions and higher education. She said that so far 35,018 people have been provided with unique disability identity cards. 15,198 differently-abled people are being given a monthly social allowance of Rs. 2,000.

Addressing the gathering Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, Minister Tinku Roy said that many sports will be held in these two-day Para Games. Earlier, 80 percent and more specially abled people used to come under the social allowance. Currently, initiatives have been taken in the state to bring 60 percent and more eligible disabled people under the social allowance.

Addressing the programme participants Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat said that organizing such sports programs provides an opportunity for the disabled athletes to develop their skills and latent talents.

Amidst the other distinguished dignitaries there were Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat,  secretary of social welfare and social education department Tapas Roy, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs of Tripura State S.B Nath, Director of Social welfare, Teachers and Students of difference Schools many other dignitaries were present in the programme.
