Agartala, Tripura, 29th of October, 2024 : With the initiative of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Government of Tripura, ‘Run for Unity’ as Part of National Unity Day organized in Swami Vivekananda ground, Agartala on Tuesday (29th October, 2024). The ‘Run for Unity’ was organized as part of the National Unity Day, to be celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. In the presence of many dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of National Unity Day Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played an important role in maintaining the unity and integrity of India. The birthday of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a symbol of the country’s sovereignty and unity, is being celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Divas.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of independent India. After the independence of the country, he played an important role in creating the Indian unity i.e. the Indian Federation to unite many small princely states of the country with the Union of India.
October 31 is being observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas since 2014 when the Union Government was formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister said that sometimes divisive forces try to destroy the unity of India. Ekta Diwas is being observed with the intention of being vigilant against those negative forces.
Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, Labour Minister Tinku Roy delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Hon’ble MP and Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajib Bhattacharjee, Hon’ble Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA Kalyani Roy, Chief Secretary J.K Sinha, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Dr. PK Chakraborty, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Bishal Kumar, Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar and many other dignitaries were present in the programme.
TSR, Assam Rifles, NSS, athletes, students of various schools and colleges participated in the Run For Unity. The Run For Unity start Start from Swami Vivekananda ground, passes through various routes of Agartala city and ended the at Umakanta Academy.
