Agartala, 18th of July, 2024 : A comprehensive case study on water-logging and flood control in Agartala, prepared by Kiran Gitte, the State Health Secretary, has won first prize at a prestigious training camp conducted by the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. The camp, held from June 18 to July 13, saw participation from 83 IAS officers representing 23 cadre states.
Gitte’s case study, rooted in his experiences as the Secretary of the Urban Development Department and Chairman of the Agartala Smart City Project during 2019-20, showcased the significant strides made under the Agartala Flood Mitigation Project. During three years of this project, initiatives involved installation of sewage and diesel-powered pumps, underground pipelines, enhanced power supply, machine-based drain cleaning, and the construction of new drains and flood gates.
A highlight of the project is the integrated command system for round-the-clock monitoring of flood situations. These efforts have drastically reduced water accumulation times from 2-3 days to less than an hour during heavy rainfall of up to 150 mm.
The award was presented to Gitte by Sriram Tarunikanti, Director of LBSNAA. The Acting Director of the Health Department announced this achievement in a press release.
