Agartala, Tripura, 4th of September, 2024 : Kokborok is taught as a subject in 1163 schools in the state from class I to V, 133 schools from class VI to VIII, 115 schools from class IX to X and 65 schools from class XI to XII. 20 more schools have introduced Kokborok as a language subject in class I from the academic year 2024-25.
In response to a written question by MLA Rama Pada Jamatia during the question and answer session of the Assembly session today, Minister-in-Charge of Kokborok and Other Minority Language Development Department Tinku Roy said this. In response to additional questions from MLA Rama Pada Jamatia, Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Chittaranjan Debbarma, Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the Kokborok language has been given special status since the coming of the present Government. It will not be possible to build a better Tripura without the development of the language and culture of the people.
