Sabroom, Tripura, 28th of January, 2025 : According to the information received, the State Government provided land for the construction of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University in Sabroom, there have been allegations that Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University is being built elsewhere, violating the agreement with the State Government. After the BJP Government was established in the state, through the dedicated efforts of the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the Central Government granted permission to establish the Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University in Sabroom.
According to the decision of the State cabinet, land was provided for the construction of a Buddhist University in the East Jalifa Gram Panchayat area of Sabroom at a very low price. And this 25 acres of land was provided to the university by the state government for just 75 lakh rupees, even though the market value of the land is over 100 crore rupees. And while providing this land, the rubber farmers have given up their rubber gardens for the development of Sabroom. The State Government allotted this land to the Dhamma Dipa School authorities for the establishment of an Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University.
The foundation stone for the construction of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University was laid by the present Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in December 2022, but construction has not started. Construction of International Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University has reportedly begun elsewhere. Allegations have started to be raised that it is quite illegal to build a Buddhist University elsewhere after obtaining all the necessary approvals for the establishment of an International Buddhist University in Sabroom. If the Buddhist University is built elsewhere instead of in the eastern Jalifa of Sabroom, it will be tantamount to cheating the central government.
It is learnt that the Dhamma Dipa authorities have signed an agreement with a non-denominational organization from Delhi to run the International Buddhist University, which has raised many questions about the future of the students. If the Delhi organization leaves the responsibility of running it midway, the future of the students will be completely dark. At that time, the entire responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the state government. Professors of various departments have not been appointed yet. However, students are being admitted. All approvals for the establishment of a Buddhist university by showing land in one place, even obtaining land allotment from the government, can naturally be cancelled as per the rules if a Buddhist university is established in another place. Complaints have started to arise from various quarters that this is the first time in the State that the Government has acquired land at a low price to build an International Buddhist University but has not built a university on that land.
