The National Energy Conservation Awards, presented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, have been recognizing exceptional achievements in energy conservation since 1991. This year, Tripura’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency was recognized for its outstanding contribution to energy savings in industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. It is the first time that Tripura has won the award in Group Four, highlighting the state’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
A Day of Celebration and Awareness
The award ceremony was the centerpiece of National Energy Conservation Day celebrations across India, a day that underscores the urgent need for energy efficiency and sustainable practices. National Energy Conservation Day, observed every year on December 14, serves as a reminder of the importance of reducing energy consumption in the face of growing environmental concerns. The observance, initiated by the government in 1991, promotes energy-efficient practices and the adoption of technologies that reduce waste and enhance resource management.
In Agartala, TSECL marked the occasion with a series of events aimed at fostering awareness about the importance of energy conservation. A drawing competition was held at the TSECL corporate office, with approximately 300 students from various schools in the state participating. The competition, divided into two categories, gave young minds an opportunity to express their creativity while learning about energy conservation and its role in ensuring a sustainable future.
The competition was part of a broader effort to engage the community, especially the younger generation, in conversations about the environment and energy efficiency. TSECL’s leadership, including General Manager ( TPGL) Hare Krishna Das and General Manager of Finance ( TSECL) Gautam Mukhopadhyay, were present at the event, underscoring the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting energy efficiency at all levels of society.
