Mumbai, 28th of November, 2024 : Just a few days ago, actress Yuvika Chaudhary shared a video on her social media in which she told that while on one hand she is happy to be a mother, on the other hand she is facing depression in post partum mode. So let’s know what are the symptoms of post partum and how should women take care of themselves?
Asha Ayurveda director and gynecologist Dr. Chanchal Sharma told in this subject that about 15 percent of women have to face the problem of post partum after pregnancy. During pregnancy, many changes occur in the body of women and after delivery the same changes can be seen on the body, mind, and emotions. During this time, women also have to face many ups and downs. Their lifestyle changes completely, it becomes difficult to take care of oneself along with the responsibility of taking care of the child and women become victims of depression.
How to identify post partum depression?
Symptoms of postpartum depression can last for weeks or months after delivery. Consult a doctor if you notice any of these symptoms:
Feeling like crying frequently
Loss of appetite
Inability to sleep
Being very depressed
Feeling depressed or guilty
Having suicidal thoughts and sometimes even thinking of harming the baby.
What causes postpartum depression?
Normally, the level of progesterone and estrogen in a woman’s body increases 10 times during pregnancy and returns to its normal state only three days after delivery. Along with these hormonal fluctuations, anxiety about childbirth, social pressure, psychological factors cause a woman to face postpartum depression.
How to cure postpartum depression?
When a woman gives birth to a child, she starts a new life which is very different from before. It is normal to feel anxious in such a situation, but you should definitely share your anxiety with your partner and health care provider, because they will help you deal with it. Dr. Chanchal Sharma says that there are some ways by adopting which you can get out of this situation.
Choose a person in your neighborhood or relatives with whom you can share your anxiety openly. They will listen to you and help you deal with it.
Join such support groups which are made for new parents. This will give you a chance to know the experiences of others and you will know that you are not the only one who is feeling like this.
Eat a balanced diet and take some time out to do regular exercise.
Take rest when you feel the need.
Give time to yourself and do not feel embarrassed to do the things you like.
Take help from others in household chores if needed.
Conclusion: Postpartum depression is a common mental disorder that can affect any woman after delivery, but with the help of your family, friends, doctor or other relatives, you can come out of this depression, so there is no need to panic.
