Mandira Mukherjee , is carrying on the legacy of Suchitra Mitra’s music, while also establishing the ‘Suchitra Mitra Memorial Trust’, says, “Suchitra Mitra was my teacher and mentor. This glowing tribute to this legendary Rabindra Sangeet artist is a part of my ‘Gurudakshina’ dedicated to him, I learned everything under her, to whom I have dedicated all my work.
“We feel truly fortunate to be able to pay this glowing tribute to Suchitra Mitra, who was truly ‘only One”, said Rupak Saha, Director of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers. Arpita Saha, Director of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers, said, “This is our third commemorative gold coin celebrating the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. The tradition started with Rabindranath Tagore – it was Suchitra Mitra who issued the gold coin to mark the 125th anniversary of his first novel ‘Bhaganhriday’. Then last year, the ‘Kanika Bandyopadhyay Commemorative Coin’ was released on the birth centenary of Kanika Bandyopadhyay. The lives of these distinguished personalities are as bright as gold, so we came up with the issue of releasing this gold coin as a symbol from that thought.”
The commemorative gold coin release on September 16 will be followed by a live performance at the Science City Auditorium on September 20. Where 100 students of ‘Purvi’ will sing in loving memory of Suchitra Mitra and remember Rabindranath Tagore. Songs and dances on Rabindranath Tagore, rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s patriotic songs and staging of his short story ‘Taser Desh’ and unveiling of Suchitra Mitra’s commemorative gold coin will be presented again.
